Sithulpawwa

Where history whispers to the Present

Where Sky and Earth meet, there is Serenity.

This is Sithulpawwa. A place where time does not rush forward, but settles gently into the land. Where stone holds memory, and silence carries a meaning far beyond words.

Let the ancient stairs lead you upward, each one echoing centuries of quiet devotion. The air feels different here… lighter, softer, as though the world below has loosened its grip. Wind moves across the rock, carrying with it something ancient, something familiar.

There is no urgency. Only presence.

Let the world fall away, and find your peace in this historic temple.

The Temple of the Still Mind

Sithulpawwa is an ancient Buddhist monastery, dating back more than 2,000 years to the reign of King Kavantissa, by whom which it was built. Once home to thousands of arahant monks, it remains a place where history and quiet devotion continue to echo through the land.

The name Sithulpawwa, is derived from the Pali Chittala Pabbatha, meaning “the hill of the still mind”, a name rooted in a truth that can only be understood in the silence of the place itself.
